 Yoga and Therapy
Yoga can be a powerful tool when combined with psychotherapy.
It is especially helpful with clients who have difficulty expressing themselves and healing through traditional talk therapy alone.
The principles of yoga that can be very therapeutic are outlined below :
* Yoga practice brings you into the present. Breath and movement are your connection to the present moment. * Yoga helps you accept difficulties, accept pleasure and pain. * Change in life is inevitable and yoga helps you prepare for change when and as it occurs. Yoga teaches you to be mindful of the transitions in life. * Yoga practices bring calm, peace, and happiness to the moment. * The study and knowledge of yoga philosphy encourages behavioral changes.
A number of reported mental health benefits of yoga include :
* Decreased Anxiety * Reduced Stress / Tension * Improved Focus and Concentration * Decreased Depression * Improved Coping Skills
Although yoga is not a substitute for professional psychological and psychiatric care; the integration of yoga practices and psychotherapy can often enhance the benefits of talk-therapy and medication.
